Secret Gardens of Oxton 2004 - the Oxton Society promised a bigger and better event in 2004 and so I decided that it was about time that I covered the event in a bigger and better way on the Oxton Village website. The task I set myself was to get at least three pictures from every garden involved, plus a number of images to capture the sights around Oxton on my travels.

Preparations for the 2004 event started almost as soon as the 2003 event had completed with the Oxton Society announcing that the 16th of May 2004 should be set aside on 23rd of May 2003 !!. In the weeks leading up to the day a press release was issued by the Oxton Society which ensured that coverage of the event was included in local press such as the Wirral Champion and Birkenhead News.

The big factor that can either make or break the day is the weather and on the week leading up to the big day it appeared that all was set for a great day. The weather forecast on Saturday morning was for a part cloudy day with a high of 21 degrees Celsius at around three o'clock in the afternoon (uv index 5 - moderate, so some sun tan lotion would be needed for any fair skinned ramblers.)

Donkey rides - one of the many extra events on offer at this years event. Which included Martial Arts, Punch and Judy, Arts Displays, live music and an Attic Treasures sale.

Sunday 16th May 2004 arrived and, as predicted, the skies were blue, it looked like a definite T-shirt day. If I was to achieve my goal of getting round all of the gardens this year then an early start was essential. So it was that I set off, at 9:50, with tickets in hand, to begin my saga.(note : I don't think it'll ever make a Hollywood blockbuster)
We returned to base at around 11:15 and a much needed cup of coffee before venturing forth with the rest of the family to attack the remainder of the gardens.
15:00 hours and our saga was over, as we sat back at HQ surveying the pictures I had managed to take it suddenly dawned on me that I was missing pictures from two of the gardens

In conclusion I would have to say that once again the Oxton Society, and the residents of Oxton, who had donated their time, and use of their gardens for this years event, had succeeded in ensuring that a bigger and better event was enjoyed by everyone who visited. "Hats off" to all involved ... and good luck for next year.
