of Oxton 2004 - Going Around

Secret Garden 2004 Home

There were twenty one gardens on show at the 2004 Secret gardens of Oxton event, in addition to this visitors were treated to a number of events taking place on their journey around the village. On this page I have attempted to cover these, together with some pictures taken during the day. Some of these have also been donated by members of the Oxton Society..
Visitors to the Oxton Arms car park were treated to a number of Martial Arts demonstrations from the Shaftesbury Youth Club, who can be seen to the left.
Other events on offer in Rose Mount included a traditional Punch and Judy show which a number of children (and adults) were able to enjoy throughout the day. Rose Mount was closed for the 2004 event and local shops offered barbeque and dining facilities in the streets, to compliment the Punch and Judy and Martial Arts displays.
Moving away from the centre of Rose Mount, and around the village, there were also a number of other events taking place. At the top of Rose Mount a collection of local artists displayed their work in Mount Pleasant, providing an opportunity to stop off on the journey round the village, whilst just a few paces further up the road pony rides were taking place in Rosemount Close.
Classic old fashioned car sits proudly displayed on the side of the road at the top of Rose Mount.

Above right : Artists display work in Mount Pleasant, whilst below, a constant stream of visitors flock to on of the gardens on the other side of the wall.

The beer garden of the Shrewsbury Arms was packed with visitors, no doubt recovering from their efforts to get round all the gardens on display. I also noticed a number of people enjoying a quick pint in the Oxton Arms and Queens on my travels.

One of the many colourful walls that could be viewed as people travelled around Oxton.
