Oxton Society Plaque 2005 Nominations.
Each year the Oxton Society awards a Plaque for a Village development that has preserved, or enhanced, the ambience of the Conservation Area. The five nominations for work completed in 2004 are shown below.

The overall winner voted for by members at the 2005 AGM was the Roklis Manor development

Christchurch Road - Oliver's Oliver's is a shop conversion with flats above. It has provided a pleasing addition to the village centre and a vastly improved shop facade matching in quality those of the Drawing Room and Bruce Stewart Hess. In addition other original features of the building have been restored e.g. ground floor windows and entry.

Claughton Firs - Roklis Manor A new three storey flat development in the centre of the village on Claughton Firs.The site was formerly used as a garage and motor repair facility. The latter was then demolished and the land left as a derelict eyesore. The Roklis Manor flats have provided a pleasing addition to the street scene and have been designed to be in character and scale with the adjoining flats.

Fairclough Lane– private garage This is a new slate-tiled roof garage with recessed door on This private garage has been constructed using materials which blend with its surroundings, especially the sandstone wall surrounds Rathmore Road Oxton Lawn Mews Oxton Lawn Mews on

Rathmore Road was a former nursing home. It has been converted into eight apartments. The conversion has been done sensitively retaining the original features of the house and is a quality development.

South Bank – number 3 One of three houses in a Grade II listed terrace.Inappropriate and unsympathetic extensions dating from the 1970s were removed and it was returned to its original form in keeping with the whole terrace. As part of the restoration a large two storey flat-roofed concrete garage and its parking apron were demolished thus removing an unsightly building and restoring the original views to the house and garden.
