Webhost waffle ..well didn't October just fly by, it only seems like last week that I was writing last months diary entry. With the dark nights closing in and the leaves beginning to fall I changed the theme of the site this month removing the green leaves and replacing them with the 'brown' ones. Other changes throughout the village included the change in ownership of Cottams. At the moment I am spending quite a bit of time getting ready for Christmas which has also included the launch of a new site called Merseyart, details of which are given below....well, lets hope the late October gales die away and we have a relatively quiet November...

All the Tens -The tenth of October 2002 saw the Oxton Village website register its 10,000th hit. The site has continued to attract visitors during 2002 and has increased its average monthly hit count of 316 for 2001 to 430 for 2002 to date. Looking back the site registered its 5,000th hit just over a year ago on the 25th of September 2001..

Merseyart is a recently developed website which features a number of local images. Currently this included a number of pictures of Oxton all of which are available for sale. Over the coming months it is hoped that the gallery will be expanding to include many new images of Oxton. There is a link through to the site in the Oxton Village gallery, or a direct link can be made on www.merseyart.com.

Christmas 2002 for the past two years I have attempted to add details of any local events that are being held in and around Oxton. A new page has been added to the site to cover this years events and on it you can currently find details about the switch on of the Christmas lights currently scheduled for Saturday 30th November at 4:00p.m. in the HSBC car park

Did you know Oxton ?....OK so it's not strictly Oxton but I love the quote. Up until 1376 the Wirral Peninsula was effectively a forest. At that time King Edward III, acting upon a request from the Black Prince on behalf of the inhabitants of the area, ordered the chopping down of many of the trees. In "Pennants tour in Wales" I extracted the following quote with regards to the Wirral. - "from Blacon Point to Hilbree. The squirrel might leap from tree to tree" (Blacon Point being near Chester, I presume, and Hilbree referring to Hilbre Island) Although we still appear to have loads of squirrels around, I suspect that they'd have to hitch a lift down the M53 so perhaps we could rewrite the quote as "the squirrel might leap from lorry to lorry"

This Time Last year..we were suffering from the warmest October since records began and the three pubs in the village were undergoing renovations. The Oxton Society were also looking forward to the first turn on of the village Christmas lights.

October 2000 .. the village was savaged by 90 miles per hour winds although I have to say that the gales this month seem to have caused more damage around the village than those of two years ago. It was suggested by a colleague that this was probably because they were blowing in a different direction ?? . Other new included the installing of the cash till at the HSBC bank in the centre of the village.

Why not leave a message on the village noticeboard.
