November 2001...a month for make overs

Screen Shot of the front of the site together with a picture of the new look Queens

Much of November was spent concentrating on getting the website ready for Christmas, part of which has involved the addition of the new Christmas theme. However I have also spent some time visiting the local pubs in the village as they appear to have been undergoing makeovers of their own over the past few months. This has resulted in a new section on the site which at the moment shows the results at the Queens Hotel at the top of Rose Mount. Over the coming weeks I am hoping to add details on the Oxton and Shrewsbury Arms.

Keeping up the festive theme the Christmas trees have begun to go up around the village and the Christmas lights are all set to be officially switched on at four o'clock on the first of december. This will be accompanied by carol singing in the car park of the HSBC bank in the centre of the village.

We also appear to have acquired a number of new  metal lampposts in Claughton Firs, and it will be interesting to see what the local response is to these. In my opinion it would have been nice if they looked like the ones in Rose Mount however I understand that one of the reasons that these lights were chosen was so that they could provide illumination in an attempt to cut down crime. Given that there appear to have been a number of break-ins recently on cars in the village maybe this is just a sign of the times.

One other 'makeover' performed on the site is the moving of the guestbook and contact boards to a new format. This will allow visitors to leave their email addresses if they require to be contacted, and will also make it easier for me to administer the respective areas, as over recent months  a number of "childish" comments have been left on them

Keep an eye out on the site during December as I hope to add pictures of the lights, and who knows we may get some snow so I can take more festive pictures of the village. I have added a new Christmas 2001 section within the site from which I will be co-ordinating my Christmas updates and have also added a topic to the community forum where people can leave Christmas greetings or details on events that they know about in the village.

Well there you go I managed to do it .... I got through a whole diary entry without mentioning the leaves !!!.
