November Thoughts - 2000 in 2000
Views of Oxton 01/12/2000
After a record number of hits in November of 284 the total hits count has reached 1999, I therefore feel pretty confident in predicting that we should reach more than 2000 hits before Christmas. I've had a pretty hectic month during November traveling around the country to Scotland and back, and at the same time I have started up a number of new sections within the site. I have also embarked on a bit of an advertising campaign having produced a flyer which should be appearing in a number of places throughout the village over the coming months.
The biggest addition to the site this month was the introduction of a new community noticeboard. At the moment this section hasn't really attracted the visitors I thought it might however I shall persevere with it for the moment. The idea of this area is that anyone can visit it and post messages for, well basically, anything local. I shall be putting events in this area of the site and adding links to other local websites that I find.
With Christmas fast approaching I have attempted to give the site a bit of a festive, as we get nearer to Christmas I shall put some decorations up and maybe even a couple of Christmas trees. In the meantime why not visit www.santas-elves-workshop.com to get you in the mood for Christmas early. This is another of my sites with strong local links as it centres on three elves and a reindeer who work in an elves workshop hidden away in the back garden of a house in Oxton Village.
With November proving a to be a pretty wet month I actually didn't find much time to travel round the village taking pictures. I am hoping to get out in the near future and refresh some of the pictures on the site, hopefully I can get some with snow on this year !!
On the village news front, the conservation society have announced in their Autumn newsletter that one of the houses in the village may be awarded a 'blue plaque' for historical interest. The house is 18 Village Road ,and was once the home of Sir Patrick Abercrombie, a town a country planning pioneer. You can also read about recent events that the society has put on, plus details on their exhibition of paintings in Beadles restaurant in the centre of the village.
Anyway that's about it for the moment ,apart from letting you know that the Villa Jazz website has been updated with its Christmas opening times, and it is also possible to view their Christmas and New Year menus.
