May 2002 - SShh it's a secret ..but not anymore

Webhost ramblings ..The month of May began with much speculation ...would it be fine ..or wouldn't it ...and no I'm not talking about David Beckhams foot..but of course the weather at the second Oxton Village secret gardens event !!.. as it turned out the weather was tremendous and at the time of writing this note David Beckhams foot appears to be in the same state.

The Secret Gardens event was a great success and I have added an extensive write up on it within the site..This includes a number of pictures of many of the gardens and the roads of Oxton that had to be navigated to reach these. Over the coming month I am hoping to add many more as I find the time.

Record hits in May .. no doubt spurred on by the publicity that the site received as a result of the Secret Gardens event the site managed 461 hits during May over 100 more than the average for the year so far. Hopefully new visitors have been attracted and will have found it an interesting site..and maybe they will return in June between World Cup games. ..I am looking to promote the site more over the coming months and have begun by submitting the site for its first Internet award...keep an eye out during June for more developments.

Wot's going on ?....Obviously thoughts appear to be elsewhere at the moment with the World Cup and Queens Jubilee taking centre stage.. I have added details of where you can watch the England games to the site and will add more details as I find them out during the month. As for the Jubilee .. I haven't found any events going on in the village...does anyone know of any ?.

My attempt to keep the site up to date with events going on elsewhere have started and to date I have added information under a new Events on the Wirral section in the Community Noticeboard. Hopefully I will be able to add more details over the coming months.

Hit Count

Total This Year ...1859
Total in May ...461
Average hits this year..371.8

This months Picture Teaser ...do you know where this is in Oxton ?

Last months teaser answer : The sign is on the wall of a building in Prices Lane.

Oxton Reunited ... one of the interactive sections of the site. Have you left Oxton and lost touch with locals or would you like to set up a reunion.
New Shop Opens in Village ...May saw the welcome addition of a new shop to Christchurch Road. The shop is called The Drawing Room and is situated next to Mike Baxendales hairdressers at the top of the road. I am hoping to add more details on the shop during June.

Why not leave a message on this board.

This time last year .. The tractors moved in to dig trial holes at the Firs Garage in Claughton Firs. This has now been leveled and the future of the site remains in limbo. I was suggesting a year ago that it might be a good idea to set up a village green ...Unfortunately there were no takers.

Two years ago in May I was writing about a split month which had begun with people 'supping' ale as the sun cracked the flagstones but had finished with a rainsoaked garden. I was also bemoaning the fact that some many houses appeared to be on sale .. walking round the village during May it seems that nothing has changed especially in Claughton Firs where a number of new for sale signs have appeared over the past two months.
