March - 1 year old and our 3000th Hit!!!

The site averaged 276 hits and finished with 3170 hits for the year...thankyou to everyone for visiting

The Oxton Village site reached its first birthday on the 29th March 2001 in a record breaking month. The site had its 3000th hit twelve days earlier on the 17th of March and went on to achieve a record 335 hits in the month. I have added a village statistics page to the site which outlines some of the major stats. and will also be updated on a monthly basis with new facts and figures. In an attempt to look professional I might even put a couple of 'pretty' graphs here. (like the one above)

I have concentrated over the past three months on a consolidated tidy up of the site and have revisited many of the pictures on it and optimised them. This has resulted in a reworking of the Art Gallery which saw the recent addition of a 'Assorted views' section, which contains pictures from around the village that don't fit in the other sections. I have also begun to ensure that meaningful names are associated with the pictures. This should mean that if you want to find a picture of view of the village you should be able to quickly see if it is there by using the search facility on the site.

One other section added was a downloads page, at the moment it has three desktop calendars on it,  however over the next few months I hope to add more. I have also begun to work on an Easter village quiz which will include questions on the village, anagrams and an Easter egg hunt.

On the village news front the Oxton Society held its annual general meeting and was able to report that its goal to install two benches in the centre of the village was successful as they are now situated outside the Oxton Arms. The meeting saw the re-election of the existing committee and also sparked some lively debate about the internet presence of the site. As a direct result of this a feedback form has been added to the Societies main page and I have also added a new topic to the community noticeboard where locals can recommend local 'skilled' tradesmen.

Other news includes a quick warning that people should be aware that there has been an alarming growth in petty crime over the past few months, with a number of thefts from cars taking place..basically if you park your car in Oxton don't leave anything in view  !! Huttons has started renting videos and the all new Villa Jazz restaurant site has been launched this month which includes the monthly menu and a guestbook. I also received notification, via the guestbook, that someone had actually managed to track down an old friend through the site which was nice to see.

Well I think that's just about all for now, thankyou for your continued visits and comments and lets hope the weather improves for the Easter Break
