June 2001 - and I haven't got a ticket for Bob !!!

Whilst looking for inspiration for this months diary entry I decided to have a look at what I had entered in the diary for June last year. It looks like I seem to have been rambling on about a couple of pidgeons (Nicknamed Team Rocket) who were threatening my garden with ariel bombardments, and also commenting on the rumours that the Shrewsbury Arms was about to be painted (yes that was really over a year ago!!.. and once again the rumours of refurbishment have surfaced). I also noted that the total hits were just 780 at an average of 260 per month, During June this year the site acheived the milestone of 4000 hits at an average close to 300 per month which is great ..hopefully I can keep the momentum up.

I have recently embarked on another "village" related project to produce a Multimedia CD Rom based initially on the format of the current online site. The CD will include video footage of the village that I have gathered over the past two years together with some better quality images taken in and around the village. Over the next few months I am hoping to find out whether anyone out there would actually be interested in such a product and also whether or not anyone would like to contribute, either ideas or articles to it. I have set up a feedback form where people can let me know their comments, and I have also added a subject to the Community Noticeboard where I will be posting updates on my progress....(I am hoping to have the CD ready for Christmas this year). In the mean time, I should hopefully be able to get out into the village over the summer months and gather more pictures for the website.

On the news front, Junes Oxton Society newsletter arrived through my front door the other day.  I am currently trying to secure an electronic copy of this so that I can add it to the site. In summary it talks about the success of the Secret gardens project and mentions that a repeat looks on the cards for next year. There is also mention of a Barn dance scheduled for September, and a talk on Oxton on the Internet in October. In addition to this there are a few brief news comments including a mention of the address for the recent general election voting cards which read "Oxton, Birkenhead, CH43 ..."..we do still exist then !!

Events in the area in July include the 'Summer pops" in the Kings Dock in Liverpool, where a pretty imressive line up of artists has been booked including Ronan Keating, Gabrielle, The Bootleg Beatles, and Tom Jones. Unfortunately I was a little slow off the mark and missed the opportunity to get tickets for the Bob Dylan concert on the 12th of July. As such I will be forced to sit at my upstairs window staring out over the Mersey with my binoculars, towards the tent containing my hero (The subject of my first ever Internet web page)!!. So if you're walking down Claughton Firs one week in July and hear the dulcet (?) tones of Bob Dylan eminating from the upstairs window of a house spare a thought for me (and the rest of my family ..who can't stand him) as I sit listening to my favourite tracks.... or better still ..if you know anyone out there who can get me a ticket email me on Paul@oxtonvillage.com ...you could make the residents of Oxton very happy by doing so !!
