 Webhost ramblings .I'm
afraid that I had a bit of a frustrating month during July... this was
due to a virus attack on my computer which caused loads of trouble (and
still seems to be doing so). As such I apologise for the delay in sending
out this months thoughts. During the month I visited the annual Summer
Pops event in the Albert Dock to see The Mavericks, this music event
seems to be going from strength to strength unlike the attempts of locals
to organise smaller ones on the Wirral (see below). My view of Liverpool
is rapidly disappearing as the flats in Claughton Firs have now reached
the first floor level. I will be adding more pictures of its growth
during the month..
Oxton
Village Fete - well it looks like this will not be going ahead this
year after Wirral Council's cabinet members voted against granting permission
for the event. This decision was on the ground of health and safety
and advice from Merseyside Police. As far as I can gather this does
appear to have been a complete shock for the organisers who had already
moved the event to September 6-7th to avoid a home Tranmere Rovers game
on the advice of the police. This cancellation was hot on the heels
of the cancellation of another Wirral music festival called the Eden
Festival.
 Scarecrow
festival - During July I managed to visit the annual Thornton
Hough Scarecrow festival and once again that village was crammed
full of Scarecrows and displays including such people as Status Crow,
Blair Crow and Marilyn Muncrow tied to the side of the Seven Stars pub
in the centre of the village. I have added a number of pictures from
the event to my Scarecrows site and have also spent some time updating
the links page to a number of other festivals around the world.
Oxton
Walks ... there is to be an open meeting at the RAFA club on Friday
the 26th of September in an attempt to launch this event which is being
fronted by the Oxton Society. The idea of the meeting is to discuss
the suggested routes and possible types of walks and even the possibility
of providing pre recorded tapes describing the walks. At the moment
there are around 15 people looking to organise it but any more volunteers
or any locals with any ideas should turn up on the 26th. More details
about this can be found on the Oxton
Society site.
Tranmere
Rovers - once again the football season is upon us with Tranmeres
first home game of the season set for 9th of August against Brentford.
Lets hope that they can continue their 15 game unbeaten run which stretches
back to last February all the way through to next February (well it's
worth dreaming about !!!). You can find out more about Tranmere on my
unofficial site Tranmere
Rovers Men in White which I hope to be updating with new pictures
and articles during the coming months.
