Last months teaser answer : The sign is The one for Adams the Butchers at the bottom of Rose Mount

For a friendly relaxing night out in the centre of the village

After the World Cup we are now being treated to the Commonwealth Games in Manchester, England winning a test match, and August sees the start of the football season, the non sport orientated people out there must be tearing their hair out. To jump on the bandwagon I recently took my camera out to see the Trindad and Tobago team warm up for the Commonwealth games with a friendly against Birkenhead Park.

Last month I asked for feedback on whether or not people thought that the Noticeboards were useful. As yet I actually haven't received any feedback however I did realise that I had left an old link to a previous guestbook on the front of the site and it appears that visitors have been signing this guestbook rather than the one in the Community Forum. I have moved many of these comments into the Village Guestbook and Oxton reunited section (There were a number of people looking to contact old friends). Hopefully these sections will be used more frequently in the future...any feedback still gratefully received.

Website Updates - I spent quite a bit of time during July updating some of the sections within the site. The overhead of having to keep information up to date on Traders and Shops within the village was becoming quite time consuming, especially as their seems to have been quite a turn around of new shops within the village recently. I have therefore begun to group these together into manageable pages. I have also added a second gallery to the Village Gallery section which will be kept up to date with pictures of the Shops around the centre of the village. This picture of the shops in Claughton Firs is already out of date after Oxton Fast Tan applied a new coat of green paint to the front of the shop.

Oxton Society web pages updated - over the years I have been adding pages to the Oxton Village site covering details and events with regards to the Oxton Society. During July I decided to give these pages an overhaul and also set them up as a stand alone site. During the month this section alone has attracted over 100 hits.

Events in July ... as promised I took the time out to visit the Thornton Hough Scarecrow festival which ran at the start of the month and have published a number of pictures and write up on the event.

Community Festival in the Arno - I believe that there is a festival being organised for the weekend of the 10th and 11th of August to be held on the Arno. I'm not sure of all of the details of the festival, however I believe that it is being coordinated by the members of the community shop in Christchurch Road and is to include craft stalls and live music. As I receive more details on this event I will add them to the site. Hopefully the weather will be fine and I will get the time to drop by and take some pictures for the site.

Why not leave a message on the village noticeboard.

This Time Last year...Well it appears to have been all about sport Tim Henman had failed to win Wimbledon (no change there then) and the England Rugby and Cricket teams had managed to loose to Australia. Nothing much else appeared to be happening although I did seem to be pre-occupied with a family holiday.

July 2000 .. on July 29th the site received it's one thousandth hit and it appeared that some locals were conducting a conversation on the noticeboard as to what constituted being a local. Interesting that one, as only last week it was suggested on the community noticeboard that I should "get back to Sheffield where I belong" !!
