July 2001...Some summer sun but no success
Front gardens and houses in Claughton Firs part of the new roads around Oxton Section
A month of typical British sporting heroics saw Tim Henman once again fail at the final hurdle to reach the Wimbledon Final, The British Lions loose a series to Australia after taking a 1-0 lead and England loose to the Aussies twice at Cricket, not to mention the fun at the Open... on the positive side my son avoided last place in his sports day forty metres sprint, and we did seem to get through most of the month without too much rain...there were even some rather sunny days, although if you believed the weather forecasts it rained all month.... lets hope that Tranmere Rovers can get off to a winning start next month as they begin life in the Second division
I finally managed to get out and take some pictures around the village and these should start to appear over the coming months. I have been progressing in my work on the village Multimedia CD package and decided to start adding one of the sections that will appear in the CD to the site. This new section has started this month and will be known as the Roads around Oxton section. Over the coming months I will add pages to this section so that it builds up to a comprehensive information and links section for most of the roads within the centre of the village. The first road to be featured in the section is Claughton Firs which I feel is suitably varied in houses and shops, pubs etc as to provide quite an interesting start. If anyone has any snippets of information on particular roads then I would be very grateful if you would let me know about them so that I can include them on the pages. (obviously any feedback would be appreciated)
I am writing this months 'diary' a couple of days earlier as we are expecting to take our annual holiday soon. I always find it quite interesting when I leave Oxton for a bit, as invariably on my return something new or different will appear in the village. recently we have seen a new sign for Rose Mount appear (there are now four on the road ..no excuses for not being able to find it now!!) The front of the Oxton Village flowers shop at the bottom of Rose Mount has also been decorated. ...I wonder if certain other establishments will have seen improvements when I return...the Shrewsbury Arms Garden and outside could certainly do with a bit of a tidy up... I have also heard strong rumours that developments are "afoot" with regards to the shops in Claughton Firs, and last week the Sold sign went up on the garage in Claughton Firs...so I shall keep an eye out for that in the coming weeks and hopefully keep the site updated accordingly.
Don't Forget to keep the idea coming in for the Multimedia CD Rom and if you would be interested in advertising on it, contributing to it, or just want to be kept in touch with its development, please contact me via the feed back form or email on webhost@oxtonvillage.com
That's about it for now ...unfortunately I was unable to secure a ticket for the Bob Dylan concert earlier this month, but have managed to re-aquaint myself with most of my Dylan record collection.
