Coming sometime in January ... look out for the Review of 2002 .. a look back at some of the events and pictures that that were covered on the Oxton Village site.

Jigsaw Pieces.. look out over the coming months for the jigsaw pieces that will appear throughout the site... put them together and answer the Oxton riddle to receive a unique mystery prize !!!

Webhost waffle ..well I have to say that it has been a rather hectic start to the New Year, which has meant that I haven't had much free time to spend developing and keeping the site up to date. What I can announce is that the Claughton Firs Chicken Pox outbreak of 2003 appears to be over, and the emergency supply of calamine lotion bottles are no longer required at the village chemists. In the meantime I have attempted to keep up to date with events and have added as many as possible into this months diary... I will apologise in advance if any articles are out of date.

The Leylandii is no more...During 2002 the village hit the national press over a dispute between local residents and the Council with regards to a request to cut a Leylandii tree. Final permission for the cutting down of the trees was granted in December and the Trees were finally cut down.

Tixall Bowling and Social Club ..has become the latest new page to be added to the site in 2003 and includes a picture of the Bowling green and details on the activities available at it... it also provided me with this months Did you know Oxton Section.

The Oxton Society after a successful 2002 which concluded with the illumination of the centre of the village have announced some initial events for 2003, these include there very own "Antiques Roadshow" with resident experts. To find out more about this and other events visit their website which will be updated with more details throughout the year.

Planning Permission .. for the erection of new flats in Claughton Firs has been lodged with the council. Details of this can be seen on the Village noticeboard, or on the council planning applications board (the applications number is 20027405). From what I can make out this looks very interesting,. as they are effectively looking to allow access to parking at the rear of the flats from Claughton Firs

Did you know Oxton ?....The Tixall Bowling and Social club is situated near the centre of Oxton on Heathfield Road. It was was founded in 1885 on land given to the Club by the 5th Earl of Shrewsbury. The name Tixall is derived from his wife's estates near Stafford (Tixall Hall gatehouse still remains). I also note that if you link to the Tixall website you will find reference to Ingestre a village 3 miles East of Stafford ... possibly an explanation for the name Ingestre Road ?

This Time Last year..I was reporting of the new lights around the centre of the village in an attempt to cut down on vandalism and crime, and also the possibility that a Homewatch scheme would be set up in the area.

January 2001 .. I had begun adding links to local sites and also included pictures from the Chines New Year celebrations in Liverpool.... did you know that this year is the Year of the Goat ?

Why not leave a message on the village noticeboard.
