January 2002...

Hit count for 2001... showing that the site received around 300 hits each month

With the Christmas lights taken down village life returned to normality during January, and the fund raising has already begun to ensure that they return next year. The village noticeboard is displaying information on a music evening to be held at the RAFA Club in Alton Road on Tuesday 26th February. For more information on this event and other events that the Oxton Society are organising this year visit their section within the site.

The new street lights that appeared in Claughton Firs in December have recently been receiving attention from workmen and on some nights a couple of them have actually come on !!!! During January the revised planning permission for the proposed development of twelve flats in Claughton Firs was once again reviewed by the council. A deputation from Claughton Firs (referred to as the Claughton Firs women on the community forum) spoke at the meeting and the application was ultimately rejected. I will keep the site updated with any further developments that I hear about.

Over Christmas I am aware of a number of incidents involving vandalism and crime on cars in and around the village and it appears that action is going to be taken to try to curb this before it gets out of hand, with the setting up of a Homewatch scheme. This is being coordinated by the local police and a meeting will be set up in the near future to discuss the proposal. I have added a new section to the community forum where more information can be found.

Developments on the online site have been limited this month due to work pressures, however I have set up a 2001 statistics page and managed to add a couple of desktop images in the download section of the site hopefully I will have more time during February to develop some of the sections in the site that still require attention and add a few more downloads.
