This section of the site will be updated on a monthly basis with observations and thoughts on the previous month. You can also receive a copy of each monthly update by signing up to our Mailing list. In future months I hope to include more information on events in and around the village, so if you know of any then please email me at webhost@oxtonvillage.com
January - New Year in Oxton Liverpool and Goodison
(Chinese New Year in Liverpool)
The New Year was greeted in the centre of the village with a flurry of fireworks and a man with a red flare. On the whole January has been a pretty cold and wet month with frequent overnight frosts. Due to other commitments I have once again failed to get out around the village collecting pictures however I did however manage to get over to Liverpool for the Chinese New Year celebrations. I will be adding a few more pictures and details from this trip to the site, as part of the village trips section over the next couple of days.
I have spent much of January giving the site a general tidy up and adding 'buttons' and links on most of the pages. I also began to remove the 'snow theme' from around the site. (the next day the BBC started to forecast snow !!) I n my travels I found a couple of interesting websites that I have now provided links too. The first link has been added in the getting to Oxton Section and basically takes you to a site showing a street map of the centre of the village. It is possible to zoom in and out, and move around this map. In addition it also tells you what the weather is currently doing in Oxton. Another interesting feature provided by the site is that you can actually ask it to bring up a ariel photographs of the village that can also be zoomed in on.
The other site I found was more of an historical site that has an 1882 Ordinance Survey map of Oxton on it. You can buy the map but if you don't fancy that there is the option of navigation around it online. The link to this site has been added to the Historical walk round Oxton page in the site. I am hoping to add further historical details to the site in the near future so keep an eye out for that.(any help/info would be greatly appreciated)
The Village Community forum has been steadily updated during the month and I have begun to add links to local sites in it. This month links to the Oxton Village Hockey Club and the Liberal Society Football team websites have been added. If anyone knows of any more local websites then please let me know, or alternatively add the links yourself, by going to the village forum.
Finally I couldn't let the month go by without at least one quick mention of the Tranmere Rovers 3-0 victory over Everton in the F.A.Cup, you can read all about this in the Tranmere Rovers Men in White site.
