February  - It's snow Joke

The view from the window - 28/02/2001

As I sit at my window seat clutching my warm cup of coffee (with added dram of Scotlands finest ..purely medicinal of course) I am currently lamenting on how long this winter weather is going to last, this morning I awoke to more blizzards, and although Oxton has managed to escape with relatively little snow (number one child was most upset as she couldn't have the day off school because of bad weather!!) I think that it's about time that the BBC started forecasting a couple of warm spells ... not long ago everyone was talking about Global warming and the greenhouse effect ... did they get it wrong ? ..are we in fact entering another ice age ?.. anyway enough of this idle chat and on with the diary.

well.. that was February folks.. basically much the same as January ...cold and wet and dreary with intermittent days where we were lulled into a false sense of security that winter was finally over !! During the first two weeks of the month I spent the majority of my time revamping the Art Gallery section of the site. I have now completed this and hopefully the gallery is now a lot more accessible and tidy. I have numerous other pictures that I am hoping to add over the coming months and may even look at providing "zipped" slideshows of pictures that can be downloaded in future. These will be available directly from the site or as attachments to those on the mailing list. As part of the gallery update, I have also spent quite a lot of time optimising the pictures throughout the site, so hopefully visitors will notice an improvement in the download times of pages.

Visitors to the site will also notice that the 'snow' theme has begun to be replaced by the 'autumn/brownish' theme...for obvious reasons I haven't quite fully removed it !!

On the local front I recently noticed that the Oxton Hockey club are currently top of their division - you can find a link to their site in the Links section of the site and also on the Yoyo noticeboard together with links to other local sporting pastimes on the web. The other great sporting achievement of the  month obviously went too local football team Tranmere Rovers, who against all the odds came back from three nil down to beat Southampton 4-3 and now meet Liverpool in the next round of the F.A.Cup.

Earlier this week I received the March issue of the Oxton Conservation Society newsletter which amongst other things mentions a number events organised for the coming year. The annual general meeting of the Society is to be held on the 27th March at the R.A.F. Club in Alton Road. I will be adding the newsletter details to the site under the conservation section, hopefully at the weekend.
