August 2001...Have you found your nearest yet ?

During August a number of signs appeared around the Oxton Area

A bit of a funny month this one as I spent the first two weeks of the month and the last on holiday, however lots seems to be happening and I thought I'd knock up a quick note outlining this.

As predicted in my July communication there were a few changes around the village between my trips. Firstly it was very noticeable that the greenery and foliage around the village had sprouted up during my absences, apparently the weather has been typical of an English summer with sunshine interspersed between frequent and heavy rainfall. My garden bore testament to this with the weeds and grass now standing about a foot high !!

The other thing that I noticed on my return was that a number of signs had appeared on lamposts proclaiming the Oxton Conservation Area. This event could spark a new local past time of Conservation sign spotting, or maybe could be used for "paper chase" type activities to pass those rainy summer evenings....anyone out there got any other ideas.. I could set up a spot the sign section on the community section where people can leave information on the nearest sign to them ?

The planning application for the work to be undertaken on Claughton Firs garage has also been received by the local council. The proposal is to buils twelve self contained flats, in a three storey building. The plans for this application can be viewed online on the local government planning application database. However the plans are also displayed on the village noticeboard in the centre of the Village. I have started a topic for discussion of this application on the Community Noticeboard where more information can be found.

Finally details have been posted on the village noticeboard, and in the conservation section of the site, for a Barn Dance to be held at the RAFA club on Friday 21st September.

Right that's it for now as I have loads of catching up to do starting with this afternoons Tranmere Rovers match against Oldham.
