April 2002 - Secret gardens and village events

Webhost ramblings ..well what can I say, all in all a pretty uneventfull month in Oxton, I didn't see us mentioned once in the national press or any local representatives mentioned on television with the exception of a picture of the loacl post office appearing on the front of the Birkenhead news as a protest against the threatened closedown to post offices. 

The weather appears to have improved over the past couple of weeks and the trees in the village have begun to show signs of blossom together with the sprouting of flowers in the front gardens of Oxton, which brings me nicely onto the Secret Gardens of Oxton event which is scehduled for May the 12th. Last years event was a great success so hopefully the weather will hold out and a great day around Oxton will be enjoyed by all. Wot's going on ?..when the village site was originally set up it primarily contained information about the shops pubs and businesses in the village. I then added a noticeboard so that local events could be advertised on this. Unfortunately I have noticed that events seem to be passing me by without appearing on the board. Over the coming month I am hoping to spend some time looking for summer events in and around the Oxton and Wirral areas...so any information, or help in finding these events would be greatly appreciated. The details will be added to the community noticeboard together with links to other local information sites.

Rose Mount to Close.. looks like the road at the top of Rose Mount is going to be resurfaced at the start of May as a sign has recently been put up advertising that the road is to be closed for a week from 7th May. I have to say that it could well do with a bit of improvement as a number of holes seem to have appeared recently however it should prove interesting for the Secret Gardens event scheduled for the 12th of May if the road is not passable !!

This time last year ..the country was wrapped up in the excitement of the census. This was providing a number of interesting problems for locals who effectively were unable to report that they lived in Oxton as the Post office had decided that the village now resided in either Birkenhead or Prenton. I have decided to dig around and see if I can find out when the results of the census are produced and see what was gathered about the village..so keep an eye out for that during May.
