The images of Oxton on this page were taken on Saturday December the 1st 2000. At last it was the weekend, unfortunately I was unable to have a lie in. It was that dreaded time of the year that come to all car owners ...another M.O.T. I had booked my car in at 8.00 a.m. in an attempt to get it back before the Tranmere Rovers game in the afternoon. So it was that I donned my raincoat and thick wooly gloves in preparation for the cold and wet trek back from the garage. However as I stepped outside the door I was suprised to be met by a reasonanbly warm morning ..and better than that, for the first time in weeks it wasn't raining!!! After dropping the car off I began my trip back home at the Williamson Art Gallery with a promise to myself that at some time in the near future I should find the time to go round the gallery again. Isn't it amazing how you neglect things that sit on your doorstep? (I may add some more details on the gallery in the New Year) |
I
carried on up the road into Balls Road, turning right, I walked up the
slope towards Shrewsury Road and into Gerald Road. At the top of Gerald
road sits St Saviours Church, which is pictured to the right looking up
towards Bidston Road. As you can see the sky was looking particularily
colourfull and provided a nice backdrop to the tree branches and Church
spire.
Before reaching Bidston Road I turned back towards the centre of the village ,and cut through onto Fairclough Road. After greeting a couple of people walking their dogs, and in search of a paper, I reached the intersection with the top of rose mount. |

The picture above shows the view I had looking back down Rose Mount at the
top of Fairclough Road |
I
crossed Rose Mount and proceeded into Mount Pleasant. The picture to the
left shows Rose Cottage which sites on the corner of Mount Pleasant and
Rose Mount.
Following the road away from Rose Mount this road eventually turns into Poplar Road, with its rows of character terraced houses. At the bottom of Poplar Road I found myself almost back home and turned
right into Victoria Mount. A few moments later I was standing outside
the Shrewsbury Arms at the junction with Bennetts Hill and Claughton
Firs. The trees in and around the pub provide a nice frame for the Shrew at the moment, all their leaves having fallen off in the recent gales. Luckily these leaves appear to be frequently swept up.Although, judging by my front path, I am convinced that all that the roadcleaners do is push the leaves into my path !!. Anyway this led me to the final leg of my journey as I turned the corner back into Claughton Firs. |
| My final picture below is a view looking back down Claughton Firs towards
Liverpool with the Sun rising behind the Shrew. I particularily like the
image below as you can see four birds flying across the frame in the top
left.
